When I started out on my own in April 1993, it was out of desperation and a yearning for independence. My monthly salary at the time as a single individual living in Lagos, Nigeria, was hardly enough to get me through two weeks.
Despite my lack of experience, I was determined to start a business of my own. I put my entire life on the line, but I made it through the early years because I was able to plan carefully and stay motivated.
In 2001, when I became aware of my limitations in running a business, I made the decision to enroll in a two-week international business training program with a focus on personal entrepreneurial competencies. This training was given by a foundation for enterprise development.
My participation in the business training program completely transformed my outlook on how a business owner ought to handle any business, as well as how sustainable business practices may lead to enhanced profits and growth in a company.
To all those who are just starting out in the world of business ownership and entrepreneurship, it is my sincere hope that the insights and experiences shared in this book will prove to be both helpful and instructive to you.
